Does an AI Voice Agent Actually Sound Natural?

By Martin Clarke

Martin Clarke. Recovering hypnotherapist, AI fanatic, AIPC founder.

In short: a good one does. Your customer talks in their own words, and your agent answers in a natural voice, about your business, the way you would. The quickest way to judge is to hear one for yourself.

What your customers hear

A voice agent on a Talking Website listens to whatever the customer says and answers in a natural, conversational voice. The robotic phone menus everyone hates ("press 1 for…") are a different thing altogether. The customer doesn't have to pick from options or speak in keywords. They just talk.

You don't have to take our word for it. Talk to Ollie on our homepage. He's the same kind of agent your customers would get, so you'll hear exactly what they'd hear.

Is it limited to answering a few questions?

No. Your agent isn't reading from a short list of set questions and answers. Customers ask what they want, in their own words: do you cover my area, can you sort a leaking flat roof, roughly what does it cost, could someone come out this week.

Your agent answers from everything you've told us about your business: the jobs you do, the areas you cover, how you work and how you price. We get all of that from your specification form and your specification call, before anything is built.

If someone asks something you haven't covered, your agent says you'll answer that properly yourself, and books them in or takes their number for a callback. Once their questions are answered, your agent books them in, straight into your diary.

Will my customers be able to tell it's an AI?

Yes, because they're told. Before your agent says a word, the customer confirms they know they're talking to an AI and allows the microphone. Then they talk.

That's deliberate. They know from the start, and they choose to carry on, because what they want is an answer, and they're getting one.

And if a customer would rather speak to you, your agent books them a callback, so you ring them knowing what they want.

Hear it for yourself

Reading about a voice only gets you so far. Talk to Ollie and ask him anything. There's more on what your agent does in They talk. Your Talking Website books them into your diary.
